Guardian Ad Litem (GAL): A Voice for the Children

In many family law cases, the adults are so focused on their own conflict that the needs of the children can get lost in the shuffle. This is where a Guardian Ad Litem, or GAL, comes in.

When I serve as a GAL, my client isn't the mom or the dad: it’s the child. My responsibility is to investigate the situation and report back to the court about what is truly in the child's best interests. This might involve visiting the home, talking to teachers, and observing the child’s interactions with both parents.

Why a GAL is Important
