Privacy Policy and Text Messaging Terms
About this policy
Chris Doran Law LLC is a law office in Vernon, Indiana, operated by Christopher L. Doran, an Indiana attorney. This policy describes how the office handles information collected through chrisdoranlaw.com, the client portal, and the firm's automated text-message program.
Information the firm collects
Depending on how you interact with the office, the firm may collect:
- Contact details such as your name, phone number, email address, and mailing address.
- Information about your legal matter that you provide through an intake form, the client portal, a phone call, or a meeting.
- Your mobile number and your consent or opt-out status if you choose to receive text messages.
The website may use analytics or similar tools to understand how visitors use the site, such as which pages are viewed. These tools do not identify you by name, and the firm does not use them to advertise or track you across other websites. If the firm begins using a tool that collects more than this, this policy will be updated to say so plainly.
Please do not send sensitive information through a website form or text message unless the office has specifically asked you to do so. Use the client portal for documents and information containing personal identifiers, case numbers, or children's names.
How the firm uses information
The firm uses information to evaluate inquiries, represent clients, communicate about legal matters, schedule meetings and hearings, send permitted reminders and short notices, maintain records, and comply with legal and professional obligations.
The firm does not use personal information or mobile numbers for marketing and does not sell personal information or mobile numbers.
When information may be shared
Text message opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
The firm may use service providers, such as a text-messaging provider or payment processor, to perform services for the office. They may process information only as needed to provide those services. The firm may also disclose information when required by law, court order, or other applicable legal obligation.
Text messaging program terms
If you choose to enroll, you may receive automated text messages from Chris Doran Law LLC. Consent is obtained through the client portal before the first text is sent. Consent is optional; declining or withdrawing consent will not affect your representation.
Messages are limited to reminders for meetings, appointments, and court dates, and short notices such as confirming receipt of information or asking you to call the office. Message frequency depends on your scheduled meetings and hearings and is usually a few messages per month. Message and data rates may apply.
Texts are informational only and are not legal advice. A reminder does not confirm that a hearing or meeting will occur as scheduled. Court dates and times may change, and the office records may not reflect recent changes. Verify court dates at mycase.in.gov or with the courthouse. Attend every scheduled hearing unless the office confirms that it has been cancelled or rescheduled.
To opt out: Reply STOP to any text to stop future messages. The system blocks future messages automatically. You may also opt out by calling the office or telling Mr. Doran or office staff in person. The office will record the request and update your contact preferences.
For help: Reply HELP or call (812) 979-0107 and leave a voicemail. Replies other than STOP and HELP are not monitored and will not receive a response. Do not text questions, case information, or documents.
Text messages are not for urgent or emergency matters. The office phone is the way to contact the office about your case. If you need immediate assistance, contact 911, 988, law enforcement, or the nearest hospital.
Confidentiality and security
For current clients, the firm handles confidential information consistent with applicable professional obligations, including the Indiana Rules of Professional Conduct. Not every communication is necessarily privileged, and sending information through the website or contacting the office does not by itself create an attorney-client relationship.
Client files are maintained digitally. No method of electronic transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
Website information and attorney-client relationship
Information on this website is for general purposes only and is not legal advice. Contacting the firm through the website or by text does not create an attorney-client relationship. The firm represents you only after you enter into a written engagement agreement.
Retention
The firm generally retains digital client files for ten years. Contact records are retained while the client relationship continues and as needed to meet professional, legal, or recordkeeping obligations. Text-message consent and opt-out records may also be retained as needed to administer the program and document preferences.
Your choices and requests
You may ask to review or correct your contact information, withdraw consent to receive texts, or ask a question about this policy. Call (812) 979-0107 and leave a voicemail, or email chris@chrisdoranlaw.com. Requests are subject to applicable legal and professional obligations.
Children
The website and text-message program are not directed to children under 13, and the firm does not knowingly collect information directly from children under 13 through them. The firm may represent juveniles in court matters through a parent or guardian. Any text-message consent for a juvenile's matter must be given by the adult client.
Changes to this policy
The firm may update this policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with its revised date.
